Connexionz secures major contract to assist with Christchurch re-build
Connexionz has been awarded a significant contract to design and deliver an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) that will integrate with the city of Christchurch, New Zealand’s existing bus tracking and Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI) system in order to manage the operations, including dynamic bay allocations and informing passengers via a wide range of electronic displays and automated audio announcements system of service alerts and operations as an integrated part of the $25m bus interchange project currently being built in the city.
Designed to handle an initial 115 bus movements and hour, catering for up to 70,000 passenger movements a day, the new bus interchange is scheduled for completion in early 2015. The contract awarded to Connexionz is considered one of the city’s anchors project following a devastating series of powerful earthquakes which largely destroyed the city’s CBD in 2011.
In addition to delivering a fully integrated ITS solution to manage bus movements, service operation and emergency scenarios for the new interchange, a significant number of large format displays and audio stations for the hard of hearing will present the travelling public with service, real time and tourist information.
Connexionz was the first company in the world to develop a dynamic stand allocation solution; an Intelligent Transportation system that combines the power of the Connexionz Real Time passenger Information and fleet tracking system in order to automatically identify any buses entering the bus interchange, dynamically allocate the bus to a bus bay and manage bus movements. Connexionz provides consultancy services to designers, architects and transportation agencies looking to deliver intelligent transportation management systems for transit agencies and local authorities globally.
